EXPERIENCE |
Mr. Brown joined Carolina Power & Light Company in 1968
in the Substation Design Section where he worked while
completing his BSEE degree at North Carolina State University
in 1971. From 1971 to 1978 he was engaged in the design of
relay, revenue metering and communications for the
Transmission Department of CP&L.
In 1978 Mr. Brown became Central Division Superintendent of
Services where he supervised 41 engineering, technical and
craft employees; engaged in the installation and maintenance
of revenue metering equipment, distribution substations and
communication systems; as well as vehicle fleet management and
maintenance and electric dispatch operations.
In 1986 Mr. Brown became Area Distribution Manager in
Asheboro, NC where he oversaw the engineering, construction,
maintenance and operation of a portion of the CP&L
Distribution System serving 41,000 customers over 1,700 miles
of distribution lines.
In 1991 Mr. Brown joined UTEC as a partner.

RECENT PROJECTS |
The following is a sample of Mr.
Brown's recent project work:
- Project Manager/Principal Engineer for the design of a
five breaker, 230 kV ring bus interconnection substation,
230 kV transmission line and 230 kV plant switchyard for
Effingham Power Company near Savannah , GA.
- Project Manager/Principal Engineer for the design of a
230 kV switchyard and generator interconnections for a 160
MW gas fired turbine generator for Monroe Power Company.
- Project Manager/Principal Engineer for the design on
500/230 kV substation, 230 kV transmission line and 230 kV
plant switchyard for Carolina Power & Light Company at
Rowan County, North Carolina.
- Project Manager/Principal Engineer for the design of
protection and control of Carolina Power & Light
Company's Greenville 230 kV Substation.
- Project Manager/Principal Engineer for the replacement
of 100 kV transmission line relaying (10 lines) for the City
of High Point, NC.
- Project Manager/Principal Engineer for the design of a
16 terminal network 115 kV transmission line protection
system for Orangeburg , SC DPU.
- Project Manager for 12.47 kV underground distribution
system improvements for NC State University (three
projects).
- Project Engineer for the design of 3,000 KW standby load
management generation facilities at Harwood's Mills WTP in
Newport News , VA.
- Project Engineer for the design of 6,400 kV peak shaving
generating facilities in Gaffney , SC.
- Project Manager for 2,000 kV standby/load management
generation for NC Zoological Park.
- Project Manager/Principal Engineer for 33 MVA 100/12.47
kV Jackson Lake Substation for the City of High Point , NC .
- Project Manager for five 115/23 kV 25 MVA substations or
bank additions for Carolina Power & Light Company.
- Project Manager for the design of a 7,500 kW load
management/standby generation plant for Landis & Staefa.
